A bank statement CSV format you can inspect.
Three clean columns, explicit signs and no hidden bookkeeping guesses.
Date
Dates use YYYY-MM-DD, for example 2026-09-02. Check ambiguous source formats before exporting. Invalid calendar dates block export.
Description
Descriptions preserve reviewed transaction text. Quotes, commas and line breaks are escaped in CSV. Formula-like text receives a leading apostrophe so opening the file does not execute it.
Amount
The Amount column uses decimal numbers with two fractional digits. A deposit is 2450.00; a payment is -84.50. Dollar symbols and thousands separators are omitted in the CSV.
Encoding and Excel
Files use UTF-8 with a byte-order mark and CRLF row endings. Spreadsheet software may infer CSV column types; choose the XLSX export for true numeric amount and date cells.
Source information
The default CSV only includes Date, Description and Amount. The separate review export includes source page, original values and explicit exclusions. A CSV file is not a QBO import file.
